How to Install End Post Hardware for Cameo™ and Cameo Pulse™
Once your end posts are marked and drilled (Episode 4), it’s time to install the hardware that allows your fence to tension properly and function as designed.
• Position One-Way Vices correctly
• Set up Came Pulse Clamps ("electric line connectors") for Cameo Pulse
• Prepare your post so it’s ready to pull line
✔ Alignment
✔ Electric Continuity
Hardware Needed for a Standard 6-Line End Post
For a typical 6-line system:
-
4 lines of Cameo™
-
2 lines of Cameo Pulse™
You will need:
-
4 One-Way Vices (for Cameo strands)
-
4 Cameo Pulse Clamps /"Electric Line Connectors (for Cameo Pulse)
Before installing anything, Clayton recommends laying all materials at the base of the post where they’ll be used.
Why This Matters
This small step prevents:
-
Constant trips back to the truck
-
Lost hardware
-
Staggered Installation
Efficiency starts with preparation.
End Post Hardware Layout Summary
For a 6-line Cameo fence:
Top → Pulse
Second → Cameo
Third → Cameo
Fourth → Cameo
Fifth → Pulse
Bottom → Cameo
Hardware required:
-
2 End/Gate Post Insulators
-
4 One-Way Vices
-
4 Cameo Pulse Clamps / "Electric Line Connectors"
Once installed, your end post is officially ready to pull wire.
Step 1: Install the End/Gate Post Insulators
The End/Gate Post Insulators anchor your electric lines at the end post.
Tools Needed:
-
5/8" wrench (or crescent wrench)
Installation Process:
-
Remove the nut from the insulator.
-
Remove the insulator body from the threaded bolt.
-
Insert the threaded portion into the pre-drilled hole (from Episode 4).
-
Install it in by hand (use the wrench to speed up the process).
-
Stop tightening when threads end.
-
Make sure the insulator is straight up and down.
-
Reinstall the insulator body.
-
Replace the lock nut.
-
Tighten until flush with the top of the bolt.
Important Tip:
It’s a lock nut — you don’t need to over-tighten it.
Just snug-tight and flush.
Step 2: Set out the One-Way Vices (For Cameo Lines)
One-Way Vices hold tension on your Cameo strands.
For the four standard Cameo lines:
-
Insert one-way vices into the hollowed 3/4" back-side holes (or the non-fence side).
-
They slide directly into the drilled cavity.
-
When the Cameo strand is pulled through, the vice prevents it from sliding back.
Step 3: Set out Cameo Pulse Clamps/ "Electric Line Connectors" (For Cameo Pulse)
For the two Cameo Pulse lines:
-
Use Cameo Pulse Clamps/"electric line connectors.
-
These will connect to the Pulse strands when strung.
-
They allow the conduction of electricity.
Clayton lays these at the post so they’re ready when it’s time to string the fence.
Preparation will set you up for an expedient install!
Why Proper End Post Hardware Setup Matters
Your end post is the tension anchor for your fence.
If hardware is not installed correctly, you may experience:
-
Slipping tension
-
Misalignment
-
Electrical continuity issues
-
Hardware strain
When done correctly:
-
Cameo strands pull tension
-
Pulse lines maintain charge
-
Diminished installation time
Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Over-tightening the lock nut
❌ Installing insulators crooked
❌ Forgetting to hollow back-side holes (Episode 4 step)
❌ Not laying out hardware before starting
❌ Mixing up Cameo and Pulse hardware
Precision prevents reiteration.
What’s Next?
Now that your end post hardware is installed, the next step is:
Pulling and tensioning Cameo™ and Cameo Pulse™ lines.
Each episode builds on the previous, preparing you for streamlined installation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What hardware is needed for a Cameo end post?
For a 6-line system, you will need:
-
4 lines of Cameo™
-
2 lines of Cameo Pulse™
You will need:
-
4 One-Way Vices (for Cameo strands)
-
4 Cameo Pulse Clamps /"Electric Line Connectors (for Cameo Pulse)
What wrench size is needed for Cameo End/Gate Post Insulators?
A 5/8-inch wrench fits the lock nut. A crescent wrench can also be used.
How tight should the insulator nut be?
Tighten until the nut is flush with the top of the bolt. It’s a lock nut, so over-tightening is unnecessary.
What do one-way vices do?
One-Way Vices allow the Cameo strand to slide in during tensioning but prevent it from sliding backward, locking the line in place.
Do Cameo Pulse lines use one-way vices?
No. Cameo Pulse lines use End/Gate Post Insulators and Cameo Pulse Clamps instead of one-way vices.
Why lay hardware out before installation?
Laying hardware out prevents wasted movement, minimizes missing components, and increases efficiency.
