How to Install and Tension Cameo Pulse™
With your:
-
End posts drilled and hardware installed
-
Line post brackets mounted
-
Corner collars secured
It’s time to start running wire.
In Episode 8 of the Cameo™ Skill Builder Series, Clayton shows how to install Cameo Pulse™, the electrified strand that provides behavioral reinforcement and perimeter security.
This step brings the fence to life.
Tools Required
This step is surprisingly simple.
You only need:
-
Pair of linesman pliers (or dikes)
-
Phillips screwdriver
That’s it.
Step 1: Unroll and Walk the Line
Clayton loads the roll onto a simple holder and:
-
Pulls one strand.
-
Walks the fence line.
-
Hooks into brackets as he goes.
This prevents tangling and makes installation smoother.
Install the strand into:
-
Line post brackets
-
Corner collars (insert pin)
-
Continue all the way to the end post
Pro Tip: Lost Corner Pins
Each corner collar includes a small retaining pin.
If you lose one in the grass:
-
Drop a screw in the hole.
-
Or use a bolt.
Once tensioned, it will hold just fine.
Clayton always keeps extra screws in his pocket for this reason.
Step 2: Secure at the End Post
Once you reach the end post:
-
Wrap the Cameo Pulse around the post twice.
-
Bring it back onto itself.
-
Open your electric line connector.
-
Slide it over both strands.
-
Tighten with a Phillips screwdriver.
Important Notes:
-
Go slow.
-
Make sure all wire strands are seated correctly.
-
Don’t stab yourself tightening.
-
One connector will hold — but use two for redundancy.
-
Place them 1–1.5 inches apart.
After tightening:
-
Cut off the tag end with pliers.
This is what a properly secured end should look like:
-
Clean
-
Tight
-
Evenly spaced connectors
Step 3: Return to the Starting End
Now that one end is secured:
-
Walk back to the beginning.
-
Pull the line tight.
-
Cut 2–3 feet past the post.
Now it’s time to tie and tension.
Step 4: The Cameo Pulse Tension Knot Trick
Clayton demonstrates a simple holding knot.
Here’s the process:
-
Place the line over the insulator.
-
Pull tension slightly.
-
Bring the line underneath itself.
-
Create a “rabbit ear.”
-
Fold the line back over the top.
-
Pull tight.
When tightened, this knot will hold tension temporarily.
This frees your hands to install connectors.
Step 5: Install Electric Line Connectors at the Starting End
Now:
-
Place the electric line connector over both strands.
-
Tighten slowly with a Phillips screwdriver.
-
Ensure all strands are captured.
-
Snug it down firmly.
-
Install a second connector 1–1.5 inches away.
Redundancy = security.
Once secured:
-
Cut off the tag end.
Your Cameo Pulse line is now fully tensioned.
Where Pulse Lines Go
For a 6-line system:
-
Top strand = Pulse
-
Second from bottom = Pulse
The remaining four strands are standard Cameo.
Pulse provides the behavioral reinforcement.
Cameo provides the visual barrier and structural integrity.
Why Proper Pulse Installation Matters
When installed correctly, Cameo Pulse:
-
Maintains consistent electric contact
-
Prevents sagging
-
Reduces animal pressure on fence
-
Increases overall fence longevity
Proper wrapping, connector placement, and tensioning ensure reliable performance.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Using only one connector
❌ Forgetting to wrap twice at end post
❌ Not tightening evenly
❌ Cutting too short before tying
❌ Over-tightening and damaging strands
Take your time. Clean installs last longer.
What’s Next?
Now that your Cameo Pulse is installed:
Next step is running the Cameo strands themselves — which Clayton begins at the end of this episode.
The structure is in place.
The electric strand is tensioned.
Now the fence really starts to take shape.
