Installing a Poly Fence for Horses: A Comprehensive Guide

Poly fencing or Polyethylene fencing is becoming increasingly popular among horse owners as an affordable and practical solution for horse enclosures. Not only is it easy to install, but it is low-maintenance and can be quickly replaced if necessary. This guide will walk you through the step-by-stepprocess of installing a Poly fence for horses, using Cameo fencing products as an example.

Materials Needed:

Step 1: Measure and Plan

  • Measure the area where you would like to install the Poly fence.

  • Decide on the number of posts you will need and how far apart they should be placed or use the currently standing fence posts. Cameo fencing recommends spacing posts 12 feet apartwhen installing new fence posts.

  • Using string and stakes, mark out the perimeter of the area where the new fence will be installed.

Step 2: Install Posts

  • Using a post-hole digger, dig holes for the posts. The holes should be at least 2 feet deep.

  • Insert the posts into the holes and fill the holes with concrete.

  • Allow the concrete to set for at least 24 hours.

Step 3: Install Poly Fencing Material

  • Unroll the Poly fencing (orCameo) material along one side of the perimeter.

  • Attach the fencing to the posts using T-post clips or wire.

  • Repeat this process along the entire perimeter.

Step 4: Secure the Fencing

  • Once the fencing is attached to all of the posts, use pliers to ensure that all clips or wire connections are tight.

  • Check the entire perimeter to make sure the fencing is taut and secure. If using Cameo fencing, pull hand tight through the one way vise on your end/gate post, then pull an additional 3% to assure proper tension.

Maintenance and Replacement

Poly fencing is a low-maintenance option for horse enclosures. Cameo Fencing does not mold, turn green or blacken with moisture. It is durable and can withstand the elements, but it is important to periodically check for any damage or breaks that may need to be repaired. If a section of the fencing does need to be replaced, it is a quick and easy process. Simply remove the damaged section and replace it with a new poly fencing line. If using Cameo, simply take both ends of the broken Cameo line and reattach using a Cameo Link.
